Police supervised, protected APC to do rally at venue I paid for – Rhodes-Vivour

The Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has accused the Nigerian police of helping and guarding the All Progressives Congress (APC) while they held a rally at a venue he had already paid for.

He made this claim on Monday during an interview on Arise Television’s programme, Prime Time. Rhodes-Vivour also called on the Lagos State commissioner of police to give answers over the incident.

According to him, his team followed the proper steps by getting police approval, receiving an official letter, and making payments for the venue. But despite this, the APC took over the space with police protection.

Rhodes-Vivour said the government must explain why such things are allowed to happen. He added that the role of citizens is to notify the police, while the duty of the police is to provide protection, not to decide who can hold events. He stressed that this action goes against the constitution and democracy.

He also accused the police of allowing thugs to invade a church gathering, causing violence and destruction, while officers stood by without stopping the chaos.
