The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has asked the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to carry out a thorough investigation into the death of Bamidele Akingboye. Akingboye was the former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the November 16, 2024 Ondo State election.
Akingboye passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, September 3, at his home in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos. His death has raised questions as it happened under unclear circumstances.
According to a statement from the police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi, a team of detectives visited Akingboye’s residence over the weekend. They went with the Command’s Crime Scene Investigation vehicle, secured the area, and used forensic tools to collect evidence and study what happened.
Speaking with Channels TV during the detectives’ visit, Akingboye’s son, Samuel, explained that he requested the investigation. He said the family wants the police to uncover the truth behind his father’s sudden death.
‘’I saw him the day before so it is very shocking to see this happen, that is why I opened the case so I know how he d!ed because I wasn’t getting any explanation and its been tough. I just want to do the best by him and know how he d!ed. There has to be an explanation and that explanation is what we are all looking for. ‘’
Also, his daughter, Michaella, asked Nigerians not to believe the false stories spreading on social media. She stressed that the family trusts the police to properly investigate and bring out the real facts about their father’s passing.
