Goalkeeping legend Manuel Neuer rules out return to Germany squad

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has made it clear that he will not come back to play for the German national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The 39-year-old retired from international football after Euro 2024. Many fans believed he might return after Marc-André ter Stegen was sidelined with a long-term injury, but Neuer has ended all the rumors.

Speaking to Bild during an event in Munich, Neuer explained that his choice to leave the national team is final and will not change.

He said that nobody asked him to return and that his retirement was a conscious decision. According to him, rejoining the squad is not an option at all.

Neuer also reflected on his long career with Germany, which began in 2009. He said finishing with the European Championship was the perfect way to close his international journey.

He added that he enjoyed great success with the national team, gained a lot from German football, and also gave something back during his years of service.
