The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, David Tersoo, for allegedly assaulting his wife and three children in the Mpape area of Abuja.
The police confirmed that they successfully rescued the woman and her children during the operation, recovering a pump-action gun in the process. One of the children was found with visible injuries, while the mother and the rest of the children were placed in protective custody.
The suspect, a contractor with a history of domestic abuse, had locked himself behind a bulletproof door while armed. After careful efforts, police were able to arrest him without any casualties.
During the arrest, officers also recovered white powder and other items suspected to be illegal substances. The suspect has been taken for drug testing as part of ongoing investigations.
The FCT Commissioner of Police commended the quick response of the Ministry of Women Affairs and alert neighbors, whose actions helped prevent a possible tragedy.
He urged victims of domestic violence to speak up and assured residents that the police are committed to protecting lives and ensuring justice is served.
