Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, September 8, questioned Sijibomi Ogundele, the CEO of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, over claims that he misappropriated about N5.7 billion meant for Enugu State projects.
Last Friday, September 5, the anti-corruption agency declared Sujimoto wanted for alleged money laundering and mismanagement of funds, which he has denied.
The Enugu State Government, in a statement, confirmed it had reported Sujimoto to the EFCC. Authorities allege that he diverted money allocated to his company for building smart schools across the state.
Officials say Sujimoto avoided providing updates on the contract and allegedly failed to return to the construction sites, prompting a formal complaint to the EFCC.
After initially ignoring EFCC’s summons, Sujimoto was declared wanted by the agency.
In response, Sujimoto shared a video denying the accusations and said he would comply with the EFCC’s invitation.
A source within the EFCC confirmed to The Nation that Sujimoto attended the summons and underwent questioning.
“The CEO of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited surrendered to the commission and was taken into custody. We questioned him for over 10 hours regarding the petition from Enugu State.
All his personal and company accounts have been frozen, and his passport will be seized to restrict travel,” the source said.
It remains unclear whether Sujimoto was granted bail after the interrogation.
