Armed robbers have tragically taken the life of a journalist, Ojo Peter, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Ojo was confirmed dead on Sunday, September 8, 2025.
According to Vanguard, the former reporter for Parrot Extra newspaper was shot in broad daylight along the Molete–Oke Ado route on August 18, 2025, during an attack by armed criminals.
News of his death was shared by his colleagues via a WhatsApp group for members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Oyo State.
Initially, many believed his death was health-related. However, Ojo’s younger brother, Enahoro Peter, clarified that the attack happened because of the cross bag Ojo was carrying.
Enahoro told journalists that his brother was shot around 2:00 pm that day.
He explained, “A police officer from Orita Challenge called to say our brother was at their station. When we arrived, we learned he had been shot by a notorious robber riding a motorcycle.
He was a healthy man who went out to earn a living for his family, but his life was cut short in broad daylight.”
Following the attack, police investigations led to the arrest of one suspect, while another reportedly died during a confrontation with security forces.
The police spokesperson, CSP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed that the arrested suspects were linked to several robberies in Ibadan.
The Public Relations Officer added that one of the suspects resisted arrest and was fatally injured, while the other was taken into custody.
They were also connected to another shooting and robbery incident at Anfani Junction on the same day.
