A man has been charged with murder after the death of a 67-year-old Nigerian man, James Gbadamosi, who was attacked in Balham, south-west London.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the development in a statement released on Monday, September 8, 2025.

The accused, 37-year-old Andre Wright-Walters from Avery Hill, Greenwich, was officially charged on Sunday, September 7.

He appeared before Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 8, to face the charge.

According to police reports, officers were called to Balham High Road around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, following a report of an assault.

The victim, a 67-year-old man, was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries but unfortunately passed away on Friday, September 5. He was later identified as James Gbadamosi.

Police noted that Gbadamosi’s family is being supported by trained officers. Wright-Walters had earlier been arrested on Saturday, September 6, on suspicion of murder.

Before this, he was charged on Wednesday, August 27, with causing grievous bodily harm and possessing a class A drug, after being arrested that same day.

He first appeared in court on Thursday, August 28, where he was granted bail and told to appear again at Kingston-upon-Thames Crown Court on Wednesday, September 24.

In addition, a 30-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday, August 27, for conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm. She was later re-arrested on Saturday, September 6, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.
