Police arrest four transformer vandals in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command has captured four men over claims of destroying and stealing parts from electric transformers in Enagi town, Edati Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, revealed this in a statement on Monday, September 8, 2025. He explained that the suspects admitted to cutting and stealing transformer cables in two villages.

According to him, on September 3, 2025, around 8 a.m., police officers working with community members in Enagi Division arrested the suspects identified as Mohammed Baba, Mohammed Ndako, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and Mohammed Ibrahim, all residents of Gbodoti village in Edati LGA.

Abiodun added that the men were picked up based on suspicious behavior and intelligence reports about their activities in vandalizing transformers.

During questioning, the suspects confessed to joining forces to damage and steal cables from transformers in Gbodoti and Guzzan villages.

He further stated that the suspects have been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for deeper investigation and prosecution.
