English footballer John Stones quits England’s camp just hours before Andorra clash

England defender John Stones has unexpectedly left the national team just hours before their World Cup qualifying game against Andorra.

The Manchester City player’s departure was confirmed on Friday, September 5, though officials have not shared why he pulled out. Stones was expected to play in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Group C match.

Stones’ withdrawal reduces England’s defensive options ahead of the game, and it is not yet clear if Southgate will call up another player to take his place.

The 29-year-old has been a regular in England’s defence, playing important roles during Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

The Football Association is expected to give updates on his situation before England’s next qualifying game.

The squad is also missing other key players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jack Grealish, who were left out of the selection.

Meanwhile, Tottenham defender Djed Spence could make history by becoming the first Muslim player to represent England if he is given his international debut.

The 25-year-old described the potential milestone as a blessing and said he is grateful for his faith, which has guided him through the toughest moments of his life.
