The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of the Lakurawa terrorist group and recovered 10 of the 68 cows stolen from Sogirma community in Bunza Local Government Area.
The suspect, Salihu Umar from Dogon Dutse in Niger Republic, was caught on Tuesday, September 3, 2025, at the Bachaka cattle market. He allegedly tried to sell the stolen cows belonging to Usman Aliyu of Zogirma town in Bunza.
According to CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the police spokesperson, the gang initially stole the cattle and moved them across the border into Niger Republic.
Umar was arrested when he returned to sell part of the herd after police received an intelligence report about his plans.
The Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, has ordered the Divisional Police Officer in the area to hand over the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation.
He also directed that efforts be intensified to track down other members of the gang who are still at large.
