Police intercept massive arms cache, arrest gun runners with GPMG and 1,295 ammunition in Katsina

Katsina State police have made a major breakthrough by stopping a dangerous weapons smuggling operation that could have threatened public safety.

In the early hours of Monday, September 1, 2025, around 4:35 a.m., officers from Ingawa Division spotted two men transporting weapons along the Ingawa-Karkarku village road.

The firearms were hidden inside a blue Volkswagen Golf with the registration number RSH 528 BY ABJ.

The State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, revealed that the suspects—Abdulsalam Muhammad, 25, and Aminu Mamman, 23—both from Baure Village in Safana Local Government Area, were arrested with a large cache of weapons.

The seized items included a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) with the breach number Z8826, 1,063 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm AK-47 bullets, and 232 rounds of 7.62 x 69mm PKT ammunition.

Police investigations showed that the weapons were being transported from Hadejia in Jigawa State to Safana LGA in Katsina.

Dr. Mu’azu emphasized that the operation highlights the state government’s commitment to stopping criminal networks before they can endanger citizens.

Authorities have begun further investigations to trace the weapons’ final destination, identify other gang members, and uncover the source of the smuggled arsenal.

The Katsina State Government praised the police for their vigilance and professional handling of the operation and promised continued support for security agencies fighting crime.
