“If you want to destroy PDP, dare to bring in Peter Obi’ – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned that talks about Peter Obi returning to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) could be harmful to the party.

Some PDP leaders are reportedly trying to persuade the former Anambra State Governor to rejoin the party ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, hoping he could be the party’s candidate.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Senate Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro confirmed in interviews that the PDP is actively working to bring Obi back.

However, speaking on Monday, September 1, Wike criticized the idea, calling it risky and inconsistent. He noted that Obi had previously criticized the party, and bringing him back now could be dangerous.

Wike also said that some members’ personal ambitions could cloud their judgment. He warned that inviting Obi to the party could harm its integrity and urged leaders to stay principled rather than chasing presidential ambitions.
