“Instead of making life easier, this government keeps shifting the burden onto ordinary Nigerians”- Peter Obi knocks FG over increase in passport issuance

Peter Obi has strongly criticized the Federal Government after the Nigeria Immigration Service announced a new increase in passport fees.

On Thursday, August 28, the Immigration Service revealed that a 32-page Nigerian passport will now cost ₦100,000, while the 64-page booklet will go for ₦200,000.

In his reaction, Obi said the government should be making life easier for citizens, but instead, it continues to transfer the financial burden onto ordinary Nigerians. He noted that the administration seems completely disconnected from the struggles of the people.

He explained that with this new development, passport fees in Nigeria are now at an all-time high, marking the third increase within just two years.

Obi pointed out that while the new minimum wage is ₦70,000, a 32-page passport now costs more than a worker’s monthly salary — something rarely seen in any other country.

He concluded by saying it is shocking that an international passport now costs more than what workers earn monthly, stressing that the government keeps making life harder for citizens instead of easing their struggles.
