A 29-year-old man, Olawande Akinbolade, has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre by an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting a seven-year-old girl.
The suspect, whose address was not revealed, was charged by the police with r3pe.
Magistrate Taiwo Lebi did not take his plea, explaining that the court lacked the power to handle such a case.
According to the prosecutor, Supol Martins Olowofeso, the incident happened on May 24, 2025, around 2:30 p.m. at Halibu Street in Okitipupa.
Olowofeso told the court that Akinbolade lured the little girl into his compound, assaulted her, and injured her during the attack. The offence, he said, violated Section 218 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.
He asked the court to keep the suspect in custody until advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is received.
In a shocking turn, Akinbolade admitted during the proceedings that he had committed similar crimes on three different occasions.
He claimed he was acting under an unusual influence but confessed he knew he would eventually be caught.
Magistrate Lebi agreed with the prosecutor’s request, saying the suspect’s confession in open court was enough reason for his remand.
He ordered the case file to be sent to the DPP and adjourned the matter until November 20 for mention.
