A 50-year-old man from Mberengwa, Zimbabwe, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of r@ping a 90-year-old woman. The case has caught national attention and is being praised as an example of justice for serious crimes.
According to Zimbabwe’s National Prosecuting Authority, the attack happened on the evening of June 11, 2025. The man tried to trick the elderly woman by pretending to be her grandson to gain entry to her home.
The woman, however, noticed his voice was not familiar and refused to open the door.
Ignoring her refusal, the man broke into her bedroom, overpowered her, and sexually assaulted her. Despite her brave efforts and cries for help, no one was nearby to intervene.
The next morning, the woman informed a neighbor, who helped her report the crime to the police. Authorities acted quickly, leading to the man’s arrest and prosecution.
The court sentenced him to 20 years in prison, a decision welcomed by people across Zimbabwe. Legal experts say the case shows how seriously the justice system treats sexual crimes against vulnerable people and could serve as a warning to others.
The National Prosecuting Authority urged communities to remain alert and protect the elderly. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity immediately to help safeguard at-risk individuals.
