EPL: He’s fighting losing battle – Ferdinand reacts to Amorim’s comment on Mainoo, Fernandes

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has reacted to manager Ruben Amorim’s recent comments about Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes.

After United’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Fulham last weekend, Amorim suggested that young midfielder Mainoo would have to compete with Fernandes for a starting place in his team.

Mainoo has not played in the league this season, as he stayed on the bench during United’s matches against Arsenal and Fulham.

The 20-year-old currently finds himself behind senior players like Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Mason Mount, and Manuel Ugarte in Amorim’s list of midfield options.

Speaking on his show Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former England defender said Mainoo is facing an impossible task if he has to take Fernandes’ place in the starting lineup.

Ferdinand explained that Bruno has been the club’s most important player for the past three to four years, leading the team as captain and providing key goals and assists.

He stressed that United always rely on Fernandes whenever they need creativity, a goal, or a special moment, making it nearly impossible for Mainoo to displace him.
