Datti Baba-Ahmed, who was Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2023 Labour Party presidential election, has said he is willing to contest again with Obi in 2027.
He explained during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today that his decision would depend on whether Nigeria’s electoral system becomes more transparent and credible.
According to him, his loyalty to Nigeria remains strong. He stated that if the country still has a functioning electoral process, he will continue to associate with groups and individuals who share the same values and vision for a better nation.
When asked directly about running with Peter Obi again, Baba-Ahmed was clear, saying Obi remains his first choice until the former governor decides otherwise.
He also addressed suggestions about teaming up with other politicians like Rotimi Amaechi, noting that while Amaechi is a good person, he should not always be seen only as a deputy candidate. Baba-Ahmed hinted that he could also contest as president if the time comes.
