A car wash worker in the Alausa area of Lagos State has been arrested after running away with a customer’s car. The Lagos State Police spokesperson, CP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest.
Detectives from the Alausa Police Division tracked the suspect to Sagamu in Ogun State, where the stolen car was found and recovered. Hundeyin advised residents to always be careful with their vehicles and remain security-conscious.
In his words, “A car wash attendant in Alausa fled with a customer’s vehicle. Detectives arrested him in Sagamu with the car. Always stay security conscious.”
In another case, police officers from the Ilasan Division arrested five suspected car snatchers together with a man who allegedly bought a stolen car from them. According to the police, the case began on August 1 when a taxi driver reported that three men booked his service in the Lekki area.
During the ride, one of the suspects pointed a locally made pistol at him, forced him out of the car, and drove off with it.
Investigations later led to the arrest of the suspects identified as Favour Sunday, 25; Ikot Moses, 28; Dickson Ighobue Harrison, 35; Joshua Adedamola, 27; and Daniel Jonathan, 26. The stolen Toyota Corolla was sold for ₦500,000 to Wasiu Arinola, 40, who dismantled the car and sold the parts in Ibadan before his arrest.
Police said they are still working to recover the pistol used in the robbery, trace other vehicles stolen by the gang, and charge all the suspects to court. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured the public that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property.
He urged residents to share useful information with the police for quicker action against criminals.
