Nigerian Singer, Made Kuti Reacts As Man Criticises Him For Marrying Igbo Woman

Afrobeat singer Made Kuti, grandson of the legendary Fela Kuti, has spoken out after facing backlash over his marriage to Inedoye Onyenso.

The couple tied the knot in a civil wedding ceremony held in Lagos in November 2023, but since then, some people have criticized their union, claiming that marrying across ethnic lines amounts to “mixing blood.”

One of the recent critics, identified as @AdemolaOgudu on X (formerly Twitter), insulted Kuti by calling him a “foolish Yoruba man” for marrying an Igbo woman.

Reacting to the insult, Kuti said that anyone who believes one tribe is superior or inferior to another is still trapped in a “slave mentality.” He stressed that such outdated thinking should have no place in modern Africa.

The Afrobeat star urged his critics to learn from African heroes such as his great-grandmother Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, his grandfather Fela Kuti, Kwame Nkrumah, and Thomas Sankara, all of whom fought for unity and progress.

According to him, Africa has more to gain when people embrace one another instead of being divided by ethnic prejudice.
