Ebonyi Businessman Treks From Lagos To Ebonyi State To Honour Governor Nwifuru

A businessman from Ebonyi State, Jeremiah Obaji Nworu, who lives in Lagos, is set to start a “Trek-a-thon” from Lagos to his hometown in Ebonyi.

Nworu says the walk is his way of thanking Governor Francis Nwifuru for the great work he is doing in the state.

He pointed to the return of peace in Effium—after years of conflict—as proof that the governor is working well.

According to him, trekking is the least he can do to show appreciation. The distance from Lagos to Abakaliki is about 633km, and he plans to start on Friday, August 22, 2025.

He also praised the ongoing Vanco flyover project, saying it could become one of the best in Nigeria.

Nworu added that Effium—the community that has enjoyed the peace efforts—is his hometown.

He stressed that Governor Nwifuru’s achievements in a short time are, in his view, greater than those of past administrations.

Nworu said he will trek from Lagos to Ebonyi to thank the governor for restoring peace in Effium and for pushing big projects like the flyover.

He also noted that the governor created four new autonomous communities in Ebonyi State—something he said previous governments could not do.

He explained that if religious leaders can make big sacrifices for their people, then walking from Lagos to Abakaliki is not too much to honour a leader who helped change his life—from being displaced to belonging to a new autonomous community.

Nworu concluded that his trek also celebrates Governor Nwifuru’s many ongoing projects across the state, including the Vanco flyover.
