Armed men, suspected to be herdsmen, carried out an attack in Yelewata community, located in Nyiev Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, killing one farmer.

The violent incident took place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. This comes just two weeks after another attack left three residents dead and three others injured. It is also less than three months since over 200 people were massacred in the same area.

The victim, Mr. Hemen Ayua Jonyi, was reportedly attacked with a machete while he tried to reach his yam farm, situated less than a mile from the village square.
