AEC Unity Network Limited has confirmed that work on the 470-kilometre Abuja-Lagos Superhighway will soon start. The $4 billion project is expected to cut travel time between Nigeria’s busiest cities and make journeys safer and faster.
The company’s Chairman, Dr. Kenny Martins, described the project as a landmark step that will change the way people and goods move across the country.
He explained that the new road is being designed to allow vehicles move at speeds of up to 80 kilometres per hour, which will drastically reduce the long hours usually spent on the road.
Dr. Martins noted that this is more than just a road construction project. The superhighway will transform transportation, open up rural communities, create jobs, and unlock new business opportunities for the states along its route.
The road will stretch across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, and the FCT, with additional connections to Ondo State and Baro Port in Niger State. This, he said, will boost regional trade and improve logistics.
According to him, the project will also help reduce traffic on existing routes, lower transport costs, and ease the stress of moving commuters and cargo between Lagos and Abuja.
Martins further revealed that the superhighway is being carried out in partnership with the Federal Executive Council, the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, and the Federal Ministry of Works, under the supervision of Minister Dave Umahi.
He assured Nigerians that the road is not just for today but will serve future generations, adding that very soon, people will be driving on this modern superhighway.
