“I was married to eight terrorists and had three children,” said a rescued Chibok girl, now with two children, after being held captive for 10 years.

In a recent operation, 332 individuals, including 110 women and 220 children, were rescued from the Bama-Pulka area during a clearance mission in Sambisa Forest. Among them was 27-year-old Ihyi Abdul, who had been in captivity for 10 years.

Ihyi Abdul, now three months pregnant, was rescued on June 23, 2024, along with her two children. Speaking at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, she shared her harrowing journey.

“I was married to eight terrorists and gave birth to three children,” Ihyi Abdul revealed. “I trekked for days before reaching a military checkpoint in Nigeria, where the soldiers took me and my children in.”

“We the Chibok girls are not kept in the same camp, and I don’t know why they are still in captivity but those of us have chosen to remain in Sambisa, while others have not had the chance to escape.

“As for education, I cannot say anything for now but am not sure I can continue with education.”

This rescue operation, led by Maj-Gen. Waheed Shuaibu, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, is a significant step in the ongoing efforts to free those held captive by terrorists in the region. The bravery and resilience of individuals like Ihyi Abdul are a testament to the human spirit’s ability to endure and overcome even the most challenging circumstances.
