Bamidele Abiodun, the First Lady of Ogun State, shared a heartfelt tribute to her late son, Gbemiga, also known as DJ Olu, on what would have been his birthday today, August 14.
DJ Olu tragically passed away on October 7, 2017, alongside his friend Chime, at the age of 24. His loss has left a deep and lasting impact on the family.
Reflecting on the pain of that loss, Mrs. Abiodun recalled a conversation from 2017: “No matter how joyful a situation may be, it will never feel complete because Gbemiga isn’t here. We must learn to live with that.”
She shared her feelings on his birthday, saying, “It’s your birthday again, and I am thankful to God for many blessings. I am happy, but that happiness is always shadowed by the reality that you’re not here to celebrate with us.”
Despite her faith, she admitted the enduring pain of imagining how different life would be if her son were still alive, thinking about the plans he had and the precious moments they shared. “My heart breaks thinking of what could have been, but I trust God’s plan,” she added.
She concluded her tribute with love and remembrance: “My Gbemiga, rest in peace. We continue to remember you fondly on your birthday, because I know that’s what you would have wanted. Love you always.”
