Daniel Bwala, who advises President Bola Tinubu on policy communication, has stated that no political leader, not even ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has the chance to beat Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, August 13, Bwala rejected recent suggestions for Jonathan to contest. He called these proposals a tactic aimed at harming Jonathan’s reputation after leaving office.
“I believe some dishonest individuals are trying to lure former President Goodluck Jonathan back into politics so they can tarnish the image he has built globally since leaving office,” Bwala explained.
He also pointed out that the political scene in southern Nigeria, Jonathan’s base, is largely in favor of Tinubu. Bwala highlighted that several governors are already backing Tinubu and questioned the motives of northern politicians encouraging Jonathan to run.
“Those pushing him in the north—weren’t they the ones who opposed him during his presidency? Why should he trust that their current support is genuine? Jonathan is smarter than to fall for that,” he said.
Bwala expressed strong confidence that Tinubu will win against Jonathan or any other challenger.
“Even if President Jonathan enters the race, the political reality in Nigeria today shows that no politician has the strength to defeat President Bola Tinubu,” he concluded.
Jonathan has not yet confirmed whether he plans to run in the next presidential election.
