Late Monday evening, a tragic accident occurred in the Scampia suburb of Naples, Italy. A balcony on the fourth floor of a social housing building collapsed, causing two more balconies to fall with it. The collapse resulted in the deaths of a 29-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman. Additionally, at least 13 people, including several children, were injured.

Two of the injured children, aged two and four, are in life-threatening condition. Many residents were outside at the time of the collapse due to the high temperatures. The accident happened just before 11 pm (2100 GMT), creating panic among the residents.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and discovered that several of the injured were in critical condition. Among the injured, there are at least seven children aged between two and eight.

More than 800 residents had to evacuate their homes as a precaution, spending several hours outside. The cause of the balcony collapse is still unknown.

Scampia is known as a stronghold of Mafia families, with widespread gang crime and drug dealing. Many buildings in the neighborhood, including the one where the accident occurred, were built in the 1960s and 1970s. According to reports, the affected building was constructed in 1975.
