The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police have successfully broken up a six-member armed robbery gang known as the “one chance” syndicate. They arrested six suspects, saved a victim, and retrieved the gang’s getaway car.
According to CSP Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, on August 6 at about 8:30 a.m., police officers on routine patrol spotted a woman named Angel Patrick being forced out of a moving car on Kubwa Expressway.
Quickly acting, one police team rescued Angel and rushed her to Zankwochi Hospital in Mabushi for urgent medical help. Meanwhile, another group of undercover officers chased after the robbers to Aso area in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
After a fast pursuit and a gun battle, the police stopped the criminals. Five suspects were caught on the spot: Jude Simon from Mararaba, and Emmanuel Akor, Daniel Benson, Uche Thomas, and Tope Ola from Mpape. All were wanted by the police before. The gang’s dark grey Toyota Corolla was also seized.
One suspect was shot during the fight and was later confirmed dead at Asokoro General Hospital.
Further checks showed that one suspect, John Simon, had been previously arrested in December 2024 for the same crime and was held at Kuje Correctional Centre.
Items taken from the suspects include the car, six ATM cards believed to belong to past victims, a jackknife, cash totaling N115,000, and other personal belongings likely stolen from others.
The suspects admitted they had been working as “one chance” robbers for many years.
The FCT Police Commissioner praised the officers for their courage and skill and assured that the police would keep fighting crime in the FCT. He also warned the public to be careful when getting into vehicles and to use only authorized motor parks.
