Former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, believes former President Goodluck Jonathan is the best candidate the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can present to win back power from President Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, August 8, Lamido urged the PDP to actively work on bringing Jonathan back, stating that no current southern PDP member has Jonathan’s level of experience.
He described Jonathan as an experienced leader who has successfully governed Nigeria before and knows how to work well with others.
Lamido said Jonathan is very qualified and welcome in the PDP, emphasizing that no other member compares to him in terms of competence.
According to Lamido, if the presidency is handed to the South under PDP, Jonathan should be the choice due to his leadership skills, experience in office, openness to listening, and belief in teamwork.
He also suggested that some PDP members who opposed the party in the 2023 elections, including Minister Nyesom Wike, former governors Samuel Ortom and Okezie Ikpeazu, should be expelled for working against the party.
Lamido said those who openly supported the rival APC or acted against the PDP’s interests during the last election should be removed from the party.
His remarks come as the PDP is making moves to bring Jonathan back ahead of the 2027 general elections.
