Tension in Delta community as herdsmen kill farmer on his land

There is growing fear in Jesse, a community in Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State, after a local farmer, Ayo Abuneke, was allegedly killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen on his farmland.

According to reports, Mr. Abuneke had gone to the farm with his son when the attack happened. His son managed to escape and quickly alerted the community about what had occurred.

Sources say that the farmer got to his farm and saw the herdsmen destroying his crops. When he confronted them about the damage, things turned violent.

The herdsmen reportedly pulled out knives and other sharp weapons and attacked Mr. Abuneke, killing him on the spot.

They also tried to harm his son, but the young man was lucky to escape the attack and flee for his life.

As a result of the killing, many Hausa residents in Jesse are now fleeing the town. They fear retaliation from angry youths in the community who are threatening to take revenge on any northerner they come across.
