2027: Jonathan now ready to contest, meet with northern leaders – Report

There are fresh reports suggesting that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria’s former president, is getting ready to run in the 2027 presidential election.

According to the DAILY POST, there have been ongoing talks about Jonathan making a political comeback, especially with new developments in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A trusted friend and political associate of Jonathan told Vanguard that the former president, who hails from Bayelsa State, has now agreed to contest the 2027 election under the PDP.

The source revealed that plans to bring Jonathan back into the race are already at an advanced stage and that he has accepted to participate.

Jonathan’s decision is said to be driven by his desire to tackle poverty, economic hardship, and the increasing suffering of Nigerians, which, according to the source, worsened under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government after 2023.

It was also claimed that Jonathan has already held secret meetings with key politicians from both within and outside the PDP, especially in northern Nigeria, to ask for their support ahead of the 2027 race.

One of these meetings reportedly included a visit to former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, at his home in Minna, Niger State, where Jonathan shared his intention to run for only one term if elected.

Meanwhile, Mallam Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, confirmed that the party has been working to bring Jonathan back into the political spotlight.

Abdullahi noted that many Nigerians now regret not voting for Jonathan in the past. He said people have started to appreciate his achievements and are even urging him to return to help save the country.
