Four people have been arrested by the Ondo State Police for the armed robbery and murder of a 25-year-old commercial motorcyclist named Nwike Sabbat in Ondo town. The attackers took his motorcycle and valuables before shooting him.

The Police Commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, said that after receiving credible information, police officers arrested one suspect, Adeife Adewumi. Adewumi is originally from Idanre but lives in Ibadan. He was caught with the stolen motorcycle.

Adewumi’s arrest helped police find three other suspects. A special police team led by the Tactical Intelligence Response Squad also arrested two men, Johnson Mathew and Disu Sunday, in Ilara-Mokin. The two confessed to being part of the gang responsible for the robbery and killing. Police recovered two homemade guns and cartridges from them.

Further investigation led to the arrest of an 87-year-old man called Chief Kogbona from Odole Street in Idanre. He supplied guns and ammunition to the gang. Police found ten live cartridges at his home. He is also in custody and will face prosecution with the others.

All four suspects are now held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure. The police are continuing their investigations and have documented all recovered evidence. The police said these arrests show their commitment to protecting people and fighting crime through smart, intelligence-led operations. They are still searching for other gang members who have not been caught yet.
