No student nurse, intern should take over in Kwara hospitals – NANNM warns

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) in Kwara State has warned hospitals not to use student or intern nurses during the ongoing nationwide strike.

The union gave this warning in a statement made in Ilorin on Wednesday. The state secretary, Marcus Lucas, said they received information that some hospitals were trying to use student nurses on clinical posting and intern nurses to carry out the duties of registered nurses during the seven-day warning strike.

He stressed that no student or intern nurse should be asked to take over such responsibilities under any condition. The union said doing so could endanger patients and would also go against the goals of their strike.

They also warned that any Head of Department who allows or supports this kind of action would be held responsible and face consequences.

The statement ended by encouraging all union members to stay strong and united as they continue their struggle for better working conditions.
