Delta Pilot arrested and faces faces Child S3x assault charges after landing in San Francisco

A Delta Air Lines pilot was arrested at San Francisco International Airport on July 26. Officials said he is facing several serious charges involving child abuse.

Rustom Bhagwagar, who is 34 years old, was arrested right after Delta Flight 2809 landed at the airport around 9:35 p.m. The flight had been delayed earlier due to fog. Authorities in Contra Costa County said he is facing five charges of forcing a child under 10 into sexual acts.

This arrest came after an investigation that began in April when someone reported possible abuse involving a child. Jail records show that Bhagwagar is being held with bail set at $5 million.

By Monday, July 28, it was still unclear if Bhagwagar had hired a lawyer. Also, no date had been set for his first court hearing.

Videos posted online and shared by travel site View from the Wing showed police walking through the plane after it landed. Some of the officers were not in uniform but had badges visible.

Delta Airlines responded to the incident by saying Bhagwagar has been suspended. They also said they are working closely with the police to support the investigation.

It wasn’t clear at first why he had been arrested. Later, the sheriff’s office confirmed the details in a public statement. Homeland Security also helped during the arrest, but the county sheriff’s department is handling the case.

The story is getting nationwide attention because it happened right after the pilot landed a commercial flight. Investigators say the case is still active.
