Why Peter Obi should inform Gov Okpebholo before visiting Edo – Oshiomhole

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North, has advised Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to inform Governor Monday Okpebholo before visiting Edo State.

Oshiomhole shared this view during an interview on Arise TV’s Prime Time, following controversy surrounding the governor’s warning to Obi about entering the state without proper notice.

The governor had earlier blamed Obi’s recent visit to the state for a security issue that allegedly led to the deaths of three people. This claim triggered strong reactions, with some accusing the governor of trying to intimidate Obi for political reasons.

Defending the governor’s stance, Oshiomhole said that it’s normal and respectful for public figures to notify state authorities when planning to visit government-owned places.

He explained that the governor manages state properties for the people and that notifying him before visiting such places is just a sign of good conduct.

Oshiomhole noted that Peter Obi had planned to visit a government-owned educational institution, which, according to him, required proper communication with state officials.

While he acknowledged his long-time relationship with Obi and said he still respects him, Oshiomhole made it clear that they don’t agree politically.

He stressed that this issue is not about political party differences but simply about following proper protocol and showing respect to leadership structures in any state.
