E! News cancelled after over 30 years on air

E! News, the popular entertainment program that began in 1991, is being cancelled as a TV show after more than 30 years on air.

The final episode of the show will air on September 25, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Staff members were informed about the cancellation on Thursday, July 24. While the show will continue airing for a few more weeks, it will officially end in September. It had also taken a break for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic before returning.

From now on, E! News will exist only online. Some of the show’s team members are expected to move to Versant, a new media group that includes several NBCUniversal channels like MSNBC, USA Network, and CNBC. The digital version of E! News will now focus on regular online updates and social media content.

Even though the show is ending, the E! channel will still feature other original shows and reruns. Programs like Botched Presents and Honestly Cavallari will continue, along with new releases like Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane and Dirty Rotten Scandals. The channel will also keep covering red carpet events and award shows.

E! decided to end the show so it can focus on faster, real-time updates online and on social media. The network believes that the 11 p.m. TV slot no longer fits with how people now prefer to get entertainment news. E! already has a large online audience, with 87 million followers on its social media platforms.
