President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a closed-door meeting on Wednesday night with governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC). This gathering took place just before the APC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday.
The meeting is believed to be part of preparations for key decisions that will be made during the NEC session. President Tinubu is expected to use the opportunity to inform the governors of his position on the leadership of the party.
The APC may select a new National Chairman during the NEC meeting. This follows the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje, who left the position last month. Since then, the Deputy National Chairman for the North, Ali Bukar Dalori, has been acting as the party’s temporary leader.
Some members of the party believe that the NEC should officially confirm Dalori as acting chairman and give him a time limit to organize a national convention where a new chairman will be elected. However, there are others who think that President Tinubu might use the NEC meeting to name a new substantive chairman immediately, without waiting for a convention.
As the APC prepares for this important decision, many are watching closely to see who will take over the leadership of the ruling party.
