Adekunle Gold threatens legal action as bank uses his ‘first class giveaway’ in Ad campaign

Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold, also known as AG Baby, has called out a popular bank for allegedly copying his viral ‘first class giveaway’ idea and using it in their advert without his permission.

Recently, Adekunle Gold had created an online giveaway where he rewarded graduates with first-class degrees. The goal was to encourage and celebrate academic excellence by giving these individuals cash prizes.

However, one of Nigeria’s well-known banks appeared to take the idea and include it in their latest promotional campaign. They used the concept without reaching out to the singer or asking for permission.

In the advert, the bank posted:
“AG Baby no send you first class gift? No worries, ALAT’s got you covered. Enjoy up to 70% off your favorite brands this weekend via eVouchers on the ALAT app – it’s no crime to not have a first-class degree.”

This message did not sit well with Adekunle Gold. He took to social media to question the bank’s actions and clearly stated that his legal team would be reaching out to them.

He posted:
“Dear @wemabank @alat_ng, when did this start? You’ll be hearing from my people.”

The post has sparked reactions from fans and the public, many of whom support the artist and say his intellectual property should be respected. As of now, the bank has not released an official statement.
