Fake nurse arrested after using 20 aliases, 7 Social Security numbers to illegally treat patients

A woman has been arrested for pretending to be a nurse and using many different fake identities. She’s accused of lying about being four different nurses from other states and using about 20 fake names since 2020.

The woman, Shannon Nicole Womack, who is 39 years old, now faces 43 charges. These include crimes like putting patients in danger, stealing people’s identities, faking documents, and pretending to be a licensed nurse.

She’s also facing charges for having and using drug tools, according to what the court documents show.

Police found out about her when she was pulled over during a regular traffic stop in April on a highway in Pennsylvania. She gave the police a fake ID at that time.

After checking into her background, police discovered she had used around 20 fake names and seven different Social Security numbers.

When they searched her car, they found fake IDs, drugs prescribed to other people, medical paperwork, and different types of nursing tools.

According to police, she acted like a licensed practical nurse, a registered nurse, and even a nurse supervisor at different nursing homes and rehab centers in Pennsylvania.

They say she used the names and license numbers of four real nurses who live in the southern part of the U.S.

She was able to get these jobs by tricking staffing agencies with fake papers. She even created a fake company so she could send herself to different hospitals and clinics.

Police explained that she even acted like an employer, picking up the phone to assign jobs to herself and make her scams look real.

They believe this all started in 2020 and that she continued it in many states along the East Coast.

During the COVID-19 period, many nursing homes were short-staffed and desperate for help. That made it easier for her to get in. Once it worked, she just kept doing it.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing and more details may come out later.

For now, her bail has been set at $250,000. Her next court hearing is set for July 29.
