Why I turned down Davido’s offer to sign me – CDQ

Popular Nigerian rapper, CDQ, has shared the reason why he refused to join Davido’s record label, even after receiving a personal offer from the Afrobeats superstar.

In a new interview with the Echo Room, CDQ talked about the time when his hit song Indomie was blowing up in the streets. Around that time, Davido reached out to him with an offer to sign him.

According to CDQ, Davido contacted him on Twitter and told him that he had just finished a big African tour and wanted to invest the money he made. Davido said his goal was to make CDQ the biggest rapper in Africa.

But CDQ didn’t want to make any move without his producer, Masterkraft. So, he brought Masterkraft along to a meeting with Davido. At the meeting, Masterkraft told Davido that CDQ already had a strong fan base and instead of a regular record deal, they should go for a partnership deal.

Davido didn’t agree with the partnership idea, and because of that, the deal didn’t happen.

CDQ said he had to remain loyal to Masterkraft because they had built something strong together from the start.
