Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has strongly criticized Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, calling him the worst person to ever hold the position.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, she accused Akpabio of acting like he’s still a governor and turning the Senate into a personal office, just like he ran Akwa Ibom State during his time as governor.
Natasha made these statements outside the National Assembly building, where she was stopped from entering the premises despite coming to resume her duties.
She condemned the act, saying that Akpabio had treated her unfairly on many occasions.
According to her, the moment she expressed her anger on the Senate floor was a result of the many injustices she has suffered under Akpabio’s leadership.
She also pointed out that Nigeria has had better Senate Presidents in the past, mentioning names like Chuba Okadigbo, David Mark, Bukola Saraki, and Ahmed Lawan. She believes the current Senate under Akpabio is the worst in the country’s history.
Natasha said she hopes Nigerians will not have to experience this kind of leadership again, as it affects both individual lawmakers and the country as a whole.
She repeated her claim that Akpabio runs the Senate like a third-term governor of Akwa Ibom and does not allow free expression from other senators.
She added that many governors are afraid of Akpabio’s controlling behavior, and that lawmakers are often shut down if their opinions do not align with his views.
