The Nigerian Senate has told Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan not to return to the Senate for now. She represents Kogi Central but was suspended earlier this year. The Senate said she’s still under suspension and can’t join their meetings yet.
Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu gave this warning in a statement released on Sunday. He explained that no court order currently asks the Senate to let Natasha come back before her suspension is over.
Natasha was suspended in March 2025 after she broke Senate rules. The issue started after she clashed with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over where she was supposed to sit. During the argument, she accused him of sexual misconduct, but Akpabio denied the claim.
Recently, Natasha said she would return to the Senate on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. She based her decision on a ruling by Justice Binta Nyako from the Federal High Court in Abuja. She believed the ruling allowed her to resume her duties.
However, the Senate spokesman said the judgment doesn’t include any order that forces the Senate to bring her back before her suspension ends. He added that since Natasha is already appealing the case and asking the court to pause the earlier judgment, she can’t act as if she has been recalled.
Adaramodu said it’s wrong for Natasha to behave as if there’s a court order allowing her to resume when there isn’t one.
