Nigerian woman arrested with drugs worth over N6m at railway station in India

Indian police have arrested a Nigerian woman named Etumudon Doris for carrying illegal drugs worth more than N6 million at a railway station near Mumbai.

Authorities in India said the arrest happened during a major operation against drug trafficking.

The woman was caught with the drugs at Panvel Railway Station, close to Mumbai. The joint operation was led by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) from Bengaluru, and the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) from Mumbai.

The arrest followed a tip-off from the NCB, which warned that someone might try to smuggle drugs on the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Express train arriving at Panvel on Friday, July 19, 2025.

After receiving this alert, a special team was quickly formed to watch the train when it arrived.

When the train reached platform 7, the officers saw the woman, Etumudon Doris, who was travelling with a baby. She said the baby was her own child.

During questioning, officials said she admitted that she was carrying illegal drugs.

The officers took her to the RPF station for a detailed check. Inside her colourful travel bag, they found two black packages marked “VINTAGE.”

When the packages were tested, both were found to contain cocaine. Together, the packages weighed 2.002 kilograms.

They also found 1.488 kilograms of methamphetamine in her possession.

Murari Lal, a Junior Intelligence Officer from NCB Bengaluru, officially collected the drugs.

The woman has now been charged and is under investigation for drug trafficking.
