Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has asked that the ongoing local government elections be cancelled. She believes there were many irregularities and that some people were trying to manipulate the process.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday morning, she said she was worried that the election might not be fair. She accused those organising the election of planning to rig it for a specific political party.
She explained that many eligible voters, including herself, could not find their names on the register at their polling stations. According to her, when voters arrive at their polling units, they are shown a list that already has selected names, and her name wasn’t even included at her own unit.
She also mentioned that there had been problems at some voting centres and claimed election workers were stopping people from voting on purpose. Bucknor-Akerele concluded by saying the election should be cancelled because there appears to be a deliberate plan to favour one political party.
