The Lagos State Police Command has announced that there will be no movement in the state from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025. This is because of the upcoming Local Government elections.
Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin explained that this ban is meant to make sure the elections are safe and peaceful across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state.
During the ban, no one will be allowed to drive or travel by boat. Only emergency vehicles like ambulances, fire trucks, and police patrols connected to the election will be allowed to move.
Some people are allowed to move during this time, but only if they show proper ID. These include LASIEC staff, election observers, and journalists. They must carry LASIEC-certified ID cards.
The police also warned politicians and public officials not to bring armed security guards to polling stations or collation centres. Using sirens or cars with covered number plates is also not allowed near any election area.
Anyone who breaks these rules or tries to cause trouble will be arrested and charged immediately. The police said they will not tolerate any form of violence or disturbance.
Parents have been asked to warn their children not to join in any election violence. People are also encouraged to report suspicious behaviour by calling 08063299264 or 08065154338.
