Clash in Court: EFCC and Yahaya Bello’s Lawyers in Heated Exchange, judge walks out

In a dramatic courtroom scene, the arraignment of Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi State, on alleged N82 billion fraud charges turned contentious. The proceedings spiraled into conflict when senior advocates representing Bello clashed with the federal government’s legal counsel.

The dispute ignited when Bello’s lawyer, Abdulwahab Mohammed, omitted his colleague Adeola Adedipe from announcing their appearance. This sparked objection from the government’s side, insisting that Adedipe should remain involved until formally discharged by the court. Adedipe, however, expressed his reluctance to participate in the proceedings.

As tensions mounted, Justice Emeka Nwite prepared to rule on the matter, but Mohammed intervened, suggesting he might step back from the proceedings if the ruling proceeded unfavorably. Emotions flared as Mohammed openly criticized the opposing lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro, accusing him of misleading the court. Despite interruptions, Mohammed declined to apologize and threatened to leave if the judge ruled against him.

The situation escalated to the point where Justice Emeka Nwite abruptly adjourned the session, leaving the courtroom amidst heightened tensions.
