Diogo Jota’s wife, Rute, and their three young children may receive around £35 million from his wealth following his shocking death in a car crash.
The 28-year-old Liverpool star sadly passed away with his brother, André, 25, in a road accident in Spain. He had made a large fortune during his time playing football in England’s top league.
Jota began earning big money when he signed with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018. At that time, he earned £38,000 every week.
In his first two years at Wolves, Jota made nearly £4 million before moving to Liverpool, where his new deal paid him £83,000 weekly, adding up to over £8.6 million in two years.
Thanks to his skills and impact on the pitch, Liverpool gave him a new five-year contract in 2022. His wages increased to £140,000 per week, and he earned almost £22 million before his sudden death.
Jota also earned extra through bonuses, especially after scoring 65 goals in 182 matches for Liverpool. But his income didn’t come from football alone—he was also a businessman and promoted several brands.
Before his death, he was still supposed to earn £14.5 million from his Liverpool contract. Portuguese news sources say the club will pay this to his wife despite his passing.
Altogether, Jota’s football earnings since coming to the Premier League total about £34.4 million. This money will now likely go to his wife Rute and their three children: Dinis (4), Duarte (2), and baby Mafalda, who is just 8 months old.
Jota also owned a luxury five-bedroom house with four bathrooms in an expensive part of North Liverpool called Blundellsands. He and Rute bought it for £2.1 million in May 2022.
Property records show the house had been on the market for three years and was being rented out before they purchased it.
Jota was also financially smart. In 2023, he started a company called Minute J Ltd to manage his earnings from image rights. His father, Joaquim, was also involved in the company.
The company’s first financial report in December 2024 showed it made over £186,000. However, it still owed nearly £50,000—mostly taxes to the UK government.
Footballers often create image rights companies to manage money from sponsorships and brand deals using their name, image, or even jersey number.
Aside from football, Jota had big endorsement deals with brands like Nike and EA Sports. These deals brought him around £3.3 million every year. He also created his own Esports team called Luna Galaxy.
Portuguese reports mention that Jota had a car collection worth more than £1 million. It included expensive cars like a Porsche 911 Turbo S, Ferrari 488, Range Rover Sport, Audi Q7, and a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG.
A website called The Richest praised Jota for his success at such a young age. They said he not only played well on the pitch but also built a strong business foundation off the pitch.
Tragically, Jota died just 13 days after marrying Rute, his childhood sweetheart.
