Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has shared strong views about former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s political future. He suggested that Atiku might not be destined to lead Nigeria, despite all his efforts over the years.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Bwala, who used to work closely with Atiku, said the 2023 election was Atiku’s best chance at becoming president. He believes that opportunity is now gone and may never come again.
According to Bwala, “Atiku tried everything he could to become president, but it didn’t happen. Maybe it’s just not meant to be.”
Bwala used to be the spokesperson for Atiku’s 2023 presidential campaign. But since then, he has switched sides and now supports President Bola Tinubu. His change of camp has caught the attention of many observers.
He also criticised a new opposition alliance that has chosen the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its party platform. Bwala said the coalition offers no real solutions to the country’s problems.
He said during the interview, “These opposition members, who I call ‘internally displaced politicians,’ haven’t presented any real ideas or policies to counter what we’re doing.”
Bwala expressed doubt about the strength of the coalition. He thinks it will fall apart soon because everyone in it wants to be president.
He explained, “For a few weeks, they’ll act united and talk about change, but in a few months, they’ll start fighting over who should lead.”
Bwala also mentioned a statement by Labour Party’s Datti Baba-Ahmed, who said the biggest problem in the coalition is that every member wants to be president. Bwala agreed and predicted that the group won’t survive beyond six months.
In his words, “Very soon, the coalition will stop being talked about. It will fall apart because of their personal ambitions.”
