Former US President Donald Trump has criticized Elon Musk for starting a new political party. He said third parties never work in America and suggested Musk is wasting his time.
While speaking to reporters on Sunday, July 6, before boarding Air Force One, Trump said it’s “ridiculous” to form a third party. He explained that the US has always followed a two-party system and adding another party would only confuse voters.
Elon Musk, who runs Tesla and SpaceX, formed his own political group after falling out with Trump. Musk says the new party will challenge both the Democrats and Republicans, which he calls a “Uniparty”.
Trump posted more comments on his social media page, Truth Social. He said Musk has been acting strangely for weeks and is becoming a “train wreck”. He also said Musk’s third party idea is a recipe for confusion and disorder.
Trump believes Musk is doing this because he is unhappy with the government’s decision to stop giving financial support for electric cars. He claims Musk’s actions are selfish and disruptive.
He also accused Musk of trying to influence the government by asking him to make Jared Isaacman, a close friend of Musk, the head of NASA. Trump said it wasn’t right for someone so close to Musk’s business interests to lead NASA.
Isaacman’s name was removed after Musk left his special role in Trump’s government team. Trump said it would be a conflict of interest since NASA is heavily connected to Musk’s companies.
Musk used to be one of Trump’s biggest supporters. He spent hundreds of millions backing Trump’s re-election and even led a group called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aimed at reducing government spending. But their relationship turned sour recently.
Last week, Musk spoke again about creating a new party after Congress passed Trump’s major tax and spending bill.
