Liverpool Football Club has decided to continue paying Diogo Jota’s salary to his family, even after his tragic death. This payment will last until his contract ends in 2027.
Jota, who was just 28 years old, died in a car accident along with his brother Andre. The crash happened early in the morning on Thursday, July 3, in Spain.
The Portuguese footballer had signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool in 2022. He was earning about £140,000 every week, which adds up to around £7.2 million each year.
With two years left on his deal, the club will pay Jota’s family a total of £14.5 million. This shows how much Liverpool cares for Jota’s loved ones during this sad time.
Jota was a father of three and had only been married to his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, two weeks before the accident happened.
He joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020. During his time at the club, he played in 182 matches, scored 65 goals, and gave 26 assists.
Jota helped Liverpool win many trophies, including last season’s Premier League title. He also won the FA Cup and two League Cups with the team.
