Football fans around the world are in mourning as two big names in the sport passed away. Former Nigerian football star, Kanu Nwankwo, has expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of two respected footballers — Peter Rufai and Diogo Jota.

Kanu, who once played for the Super Eagles and top clubs like Arsenal and Inter Milan, reacted emotionally to the sad news.

Peter Rufai, a former Nigerian goalkeeper, died on Thursday after being sick for a long time. He was one of the most admired goalkeepers in Africa and made Nigeria proud during his time in the national team.

On the other hand, Liverpool forward Diogo Jota died in a car accident in Spain. His brother, Andre Silva, was also involved in the tragic crash and passed away alongside him.

Kanu described the deaths as a “dark day in football” and poured out his heart in several posts on X (formerly Twitter). He said losing Peter Rufai was a great loss to African football. Kanu prayed that Rufai’s soul would rest in peace and that his spirit would continue to inspire many people, especially young footballers.

He didn’t stop there. Kanu also shared his sadness about Diogo Jota’s sudden death. He simply wrote, “Sad sad sad RIP Diogo Jota,” showing how painful the news was for him.

This heartbreaking moment reminds us how short life can be and how much football unites people around the world. Fans, fellow players, and football lovers everywhere are sending prayers and love to the families of Peter Rufai and Diogo Jota.
